Writing Classes for TeachersWriting Classes for Teachers, a program of Richard Hugo House co-sponsored by Powerful Writers, is a series of classes that helps teachers develop and nurture a love of (and comfort with) writing while generating lessons and strategies for strengthening their writing instruction. Hugo House instructors and other guest writers will teach lessons in narrative and non-narrative forms, allowing for plenty of writing time. Participants will then work together to adapt the lesson for their own teaching. All classes take place on Tuesdays, 5 to 7pm, in the Hugo House Cabaret. Teachers of all grade levels are invited and all sessions are free. Information about the next session of Writing Classes for Teachers is below. "Creating the Write Habit" with Angela Jane Fountas Tuesday, June 3, 5-7 p.m. in Richard Hugo House's Cabaret The only way to grow as a writer, and a great way to grow as a writing teacher, is to sit down and write. The hard part is the sitting down. In this workshop we’ll talk about ways to create a writing habit that is easy to sustain — and fun! We’ll also do a number of writing exercises that you can carry over into the summer months and the school year, and that you can use with your students too. This workshop is appropriate for teachers of all grade levels, and the writing exercises are designed to inspire short fictions, prose poems or mini essays.
